Wipe
A film transition where a line moves across the frame and reveals the next shot as it goes. Common in early silent cinema, it later became a stylized device in serials and adventure films.

Spot it
- 01Moving edge divides two shots
- 02Hard vertical or diagonal boundary
- 03Old and new scene side by side
Why it happens
An optical or in-camera mask travels across the frame, exposing one shot on one side of the edge and the next shot on the other.

Image-to-video prompt“Animate this image with a classic film wipe: a crisp vertical edge sweeps from left to right across two seconds, replacing the starting scene with a slightly different view of the same place. Flat black-and-white, soft film grain, a faint flicker and tiny gate jitter. Keep the original subject and composition at the start.”
