Nearest-Neighbor Pixelation
Downscaling then enlarging with nearest-neighbor sampling yields big crisp squares with no smoothing. It is the standard way to get a deliberate pixel-art or low-resolution video-game look from any picture.

Spot it
- 01Large square pixels
- 02Hard blocky edges
- 03No smoothing between blocks
Why it happens
The image is reduced to a tiny grid, then every pixel is enlarged by copying its exact value to a block, with no interpolation between neighbours.

Image edit prompt“Pixelate this image with nearest-neighbor scaling: large, perfectly square pixels roughly 16 pixels wide, hard stair-stepped edges, no anti-aliasing or blur, limited flat colors in each block, like a low-resolution early game sprite scaled up. Keep the original subject and composition.”
