Astrophotography
Early attempts to photograph the sky began in 1839 and 1840, with daguerreotypes of the Moon, and later the Sun and stars. Long exposures tracked by clock drives captured faint heavenly detail for the first time.

- 03Slight star trailing
Why it happens
Long exposures through a telescope collect faint light on silver plates, while Earth's rotation causes slight trailing unless a clock drive follows the stars.

Image edit prompt“Render this image as a nineteenth-century astronomical photograph: monochrome silver-gray tones on a deep black sky, speckled with pinprick stars and tiny trails, grainy plate texture, soft glowing highlights, scratches, dust and a slight circular telescope vignette. Keep the original subject and composition.”
