Solarization
A darkroom effect in which part of the tones reverse, leaving a glowing dark outline around forms. Associated with the Sabattier effect, it was embraced by Man Ray and Lee Miller in the 1920s.

- 02Partly reversed tones
- 03Silvery glowing highlights
Why it happens
Briefly re-exposing a developing print to light makes already-exposed areas partly reverse, while boundaries between exposed and unexposed areas form thin lines called Mackie lines.

Image edit prompt“Apply a darkroom solarization to this image: partially inverted tones, silvery glowing midtones, bold dark Mackie lines tracing the edges of every form, high contrast, soft film grain and a metallic, surreal sheen. Keep it monochrome. Keep the original subject and composition.”
