Panoramic Photography
Photographers began stitching views and building swing-lens cameras in the 1840s and 1850s to capture wide landscapes. Panoramas of cities and harbors showed an expansive view in a single long print.

Why it happens
A rotating lens or a series of overlapping exposures sweeps across a scene, projecting a much wider field of view than a single standard frame onto a long, narrow image.

Image edit prompt“Reframe this image as a Victorian panoramic photograph: an ultra-wide strip about 3:1, warm albumen sepia tones, a gently curved horizon, slight vertical exposure bands where frames overlap, soft darkened corners and tiny dust specks. Extend the scene smoothly to the left and right. Keep the original subject and composition at the center.”
