Jump Cut
An abrupt edit between two nearly identical frames of the same subject, so time seems to skip. Jean-Luc Godard's 1960 film Breathless made it a hallmark of French New Wave style.

Spot it
- 01Sudden subject position skip
- 02Static unchanged background
- 03Abrupt rhythmic time gaps
Why it happens
Removing a section of a continuous shot and joining the ends leaves the camera fixed while the subject jumps, breaking the continuity a viewer expects.

Image-to-video prompt“Animate this image as a French New Wave jump cut sequence: the camera stays locked off while the subject abruptly skips between slightly different poses and positions every half second, four hard cuts in total, no transitions. Grainy black-and-white 1960s film look with natural light. Keep the original subject and composition.”
