Chronophotography
From about 1882, physiologist Étienne-Jules Marey recorded movement on a single plate with his photographic gun. Overlapping exposures of a bird or runner traced the stages of motion as a ghostly sequence.

Why it happens
A shutter that opens repeatedly in quick succession exposes the same plate many times, stacking successive positions of a moving subject in one overlapping image.

Image edit prompt“Render this image as a Marey chronophotograph: a single exposure with a crisp, white-clad subject on a dark black background, repeated in 10 overlapping stroboscopic positions across the frame, with fine light lines along the limbs, a silvery monochrome tone and slight plate grain. Keep the original subject and composition.”
