Freeze Frame
An editing device that halts moving footage on a single frame, holding the image still. It became widely associated with the 1959 New Wave film The 400 Blows, whose final shot ends on one.

Spot it
- 01Sudden motion stop
- 02Held, grainy still
- 03Static emotional close-up
Why it happens
A single frame is printed repeatedly or held on screen, so all motion stops while grain and projector flicker persist, giving the paused image a charged, documentary quality.

Image-to-video prompt“Animate this image as a freeze-frame moment: it begins with subtle natural motion and camera movement for two seconds, then abruptly halts on one frame, held still for the rest of the clip with faint film grain shimmering and a slow gentle zoom-in. Black-and-white New Wave look. Keep the original subject and composition.”
