NTSC Composite Artifacts
The visual flaws of analog color television, which was standardized in the United States in 1953. Because brightness and color share one signal, edges show crawling dots, rainbow fringes and smeared color.

Spot it
- 01Rainbow color fringing
- 02Crawling dot patterns
- 03Bleeding red edges
Why it happens
Color is encoded on a subcarrier within the luminance signal, so fine detail and color interfere with each other, producing cross-color rainbows, dot crawl and chroma blur.

Image edit prompt“Restyle this image as a vintage NTSC composite video capture: soft low-resolution picture, red and blue color bleeding past edges, rainbow cross-color shimmer on fine patterns, dot-crawl along contours, faint scan lines, slight signal noise and a gentle phosphor glow with muted, drifting hues. Keep the original subject and composition.”
